Since 1969 Custom Decorators Workroom LLC (formerly Custom Decorators Services, CDS) a family-owned Denville, New Jersey based company has been providing custom drapery, upholstery and wall coverings to interior designers across the county.
Walter Kunzel, owner, has been involved in the business for all of his adult life. The business has always been a family affair - here's a photo of Walter with his dad (also Walter) in the original workroom soon after the company opened its doors for the first time.
Lisa Kunzel, owner, has also been in the business all of her adult life. Lisa worked at CDS before leaving to have her family. Then in 1994 started her own company, Lisa's Draperies, enabling her to work side-by-side with her husband. In 2009 Custom Decorators Services and Lisa's Draperies were merged to create Custom Decorators Workroom LLC (CDW).
Also working in the company is Walter's sister, Kristina. Kristina is also a long time employee having worked for CDS and CDW for over 25 years.
Walter and his company prides themselves in the traditional methods they still employ when making drapery or wall coverings. Fabric is hand cut, individual pieces are worked on separately and each item is finished by hand. There are no mass production techniques used in the workroom - just essential skills honed over a lifetime of experience.
